Nick Cox, Raleigh-Durham (RDU) Central Region Manager at Professional Builders Supply, a division of US LBM, was selected for his decades-long leadership in youth mentorship at The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wake and Johnston County in North Carolina. The Boys & Girls Clubs serves communities with the greatest need, providing safe spaces, caring mentors, and life-changing opportunities. The organization operates 11 clubs serving more than 1,000 youth each day offering programming focused on academics, healthy lifestyles, mental health, good citizenship, and workforce readiness.

This year’s event marked a special milestone with the introduction of the inaugural L.T. and Lina Gibson Partnership Award, established to honor long-term partners who have made an enduring impact through their commitment to the Foundation’s mission. The first recipient of the award was Marissa Penrod, founder of Team Joseph, a nonprofit dedicated to funding research and providing support for families affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Team Joseph was the first organization to partner with the US LBM Foundation, and Marissa attended the very first golf tournament in 2016.

Funds raised at the tournament will support several organizations and the communities in which we proudly operate, including the Gary Sinise Foundation’s R.I.S.E. program, which builds specially adapted smart homes for severely wounded veterans, the United Heroes League, and Team Rubicon, which provides immediate and long-term disaster response aid to rebuild storm-impacted communities.

US LBM, a leading distributor of specialty building materials in the United States, has named Alex Anzures, Design Manager at Texas Building Supply, as its 2025 Humanitarian Award Recipient for his dedication to mentoring and supporting at-risk youth through his nonprofit boxing gym. As part of this recognition, the US LBM Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to Anzures Boxing Team to help further its mission.

As the owner, founder and head coach of Anzures Boxing Team, Anzures dedicates his time outside his work at US LBM to training young athletes, traveling with them to tournaments across the country, and providing guidance and mentorship outside of the gym. Recognizing that financial barriers should never stand in the way of opportunity, Anzures often personally covers costs when donations or fees fall short, ensuring that every child has the chance to participate.

“Seeing kids turn their lives around with the mentorship and guidance we provide is what keeps me going. Some have gone to college, joined the military, or even pursued careers in aviation—it’s incredible to see their growth,” said Anzures.

As the recipient of the Humanitarian Award, Anzures has selected Anzures Boxing Team as the beneficiary of the $10,000 grant, which will help fund equipment, training programs, and travel expenses for the young athletes.

When asked what inspired his non-profit, Anzures stated "My brothers and I were mentored in this same community when we were younger. Now being able to give back and help the next generation make better choices is truly a blessing. My dad always told me to do good without seeking recognition, so I never expected an award for this work—but being honored for something I pour my heart into is a blessing."

The US LBM Foundation, the charitable nonprofit organization of US LBM, one of the nation's leading distributors of specialty building materials, raised more than $2.75 million at the eighth edition of its charity golf tournament, which was held at the Omni PGA Frisco outside of Dallas on Oct. 22.

The funds raised by the tournament will support several organizations, including the Gary Sinise Foundation’s R.I.S.E. (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment) program, which builds specially adapted smart homes for severely wounded veterans. In attendance at this year’s event were three recipients of R.I.S.E homes, retired U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Nick Kimmel, retired U.S. Army Captain Jake Murphy and retired U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Patrick Scrogin, whose R.I.S.E. home outside of Chicago was built earlier this year, in part with support from US LBM and the US LBM Foundation.

Cox’s volunteerism spans a wide range of causes, including helping to organize community events, fundraisers and drives, and working with several organizations in the Midlothian area, including Meals on Wheels and the Miracle League of Ellis County, which affords special needs individuals the opportunity to play baseball. Additionally, Cox also serves on the Board of Directors for the Midlothian Economic Development Corporation and as an Ambassador for the Midlothian Chamber of Commerce.

When asked about his involvement in the community, Cox stated, "I want to give those in my community more opportunities and experiences. It's very rewarding to know that I can be a part of someone's success." Cox believes in giving back because it is simply the right thing to do.

As the recipient of the Humanitarian Award, Cox has received a $10,000 grant from the US LBM Foundation, and has selected the Midlothian Independent School District Education Foundation as the recipient. Specifically, the funds will support underfunded programs including STEM Grants and Innovative Grants, providing continued education in fields such as culinary arts, nursing, engineering, and robotics.

Special Equestrians is a charitable organization in Fort Myers, Fla. that provides equine-assisted services to children and adults with disabilities, including veterans and people with cognitive and physical disabilities. Jones has volunteered more than 500 hours with the organization as a certified therapeutic riding instructor. In addition to providing therapy, Jones serves as a member of the organization’s Executive Board and as treasurer, leading its fundraising efforts.

“People often ask why I volunteer so much time, and I tell them Special Equestrians is an amazing program that makes miracles happen and changes the lives of our clients and their families,” shared Jones. “Hearing stories and seeing firsthand the improvements therapeutic horseback riding provides our clients – physically, developmentally, and for their self-esteem – are why I volunteer.”

Experiencing the motion of a horse is therapeutic because horseback riding rhythmically moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to the human gait. Riders with physical disabilities regularly show improvement in flexibility, balance, and muscle strength.

“Special Equestrians is an all-volunteer, self-administered board and 100 percent of all donations go directly to our program,” added Jones. “US LBM’s donation will be used for rider scholarships, horse care and a special project for the facility. We are very blessed and grateful for the donation.”

The US LBM Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by leading specialty building materials distributor US LBM, recently donated $300,000 to the Gary Sinise Foundation to support the construction of a mortgage-free, specially adapted smart home for retired U.S. Army Captain Jason Church. The US LBM Foundation presented the donation to Church and his wife Bella at the US LBM Foundation’s annual golf fundraiser in September.

Captain Church had both of his legs severed below the knee in 2012 when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated while he was on a routine patrol in Afghanistan. A native of Wisconsin, he returned to the area after retiring from the Army and graduated with his law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The construction of the Church family home in the Milwaukee area is part of the Gary Sinise Foundation’s R.I.S.E. (Restoring Independence, Supporting Empowerment) Program, which provides wounded veterans with adaptive housing. In addition to the US LBM Foundation’s donation, US LBM’s Wisconsin Building Supply is providing discounted materials to the project, which is expected to be completed in the spring of 2023. Over the past three years, the US LBM Foundation and US LBM’s operating divisions have supported the construction of five other Project R.I.S.E. homes for wounded veterans in Florida, Tennessee and Texas.

Additional beneficiaries of this year’s event include Puppies & Golf, which advocates for dogs in need of companionship, the Langer Family Foundation, which works to support and strengthen families, and the U.S. Adaptive Golf Alliance, which is focused on inclusion and accessibility in golf for disabled players. 

Special guests at this year’s tournament included PGA pro Erik Barnes and US LBM brand ambassadors and pro golfers Bernhard Langer and Nelly Korda. Korda also participated in a conversation about her career hosted by CBS Sports reporter Amanda Balionis-Renner. Joining in the conversation was Sophia Howard, whose father is a US LBM associate, and has been mentored by Korda and recently participated in the USGA Adaptive Open, a showcase for the world’s best golfers with disabilities.

The event concluded with a performance by actor Gary Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band for event attendees and several area veterans. The band is named after Sinise’s character Lt. Dan Taylor in the film “Forrest Gump.”

The dollars donated will support national efforts to meet homebound seniors’ needs, support local Meals on Wheels programs and respond to the growing need amidst the COVID-19 crisis and beyond.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, Meals on Wheels programs have been experiencing increased demand, rising costs and limited funding. In 2021, nearly half of Meals on Wheels’ programs said they would not be able to support their current client base without infusions of new funding. Meals on Wheels programs require sustained and expanded funding to continue providing existing services to meet the unmet need and to address senior hunger and isolation in their communities. The funds donated will allow Meals on Wheels America to continue leading this movement of community-based organizations, empowering local Meals on Wheels programs to improve the health and quality of life of the seniors they serve so that no one is left hungry or isolated.

• A housing build in Clarksville, Tenn. for wounded U.S. Army Sgt. Christopher Kurtz. US LBM’s K-I Lumber has supplied discounted building materials, such as windows and doors.
• A housing build in Tampa, Fla. for U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 3 Romulo Camargo. US LBM’s Rosen Materials contributed discounted drywall to the project.
• A house built in San Antonio, Texas for wounded U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Jason Tabansky. US LBM’s Parker’s Building Supply has provided discounted building materials, including lumber.

Additionally, two R.I.S.E. projects the US LBM Foundation contributed to in 2020 completed earlier this year:

• A housing build in Miramar, Fla. for wounded U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Brian Schiefer, where three of the company's local operating divisions, BSA, Raymond Building Supply and Rosen Materials, teamed up to provide discounted housing materials, including windows, skylights, doors, stucco, drywall and more.
• A house built in Houston for wounded U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Jay Fondren. US LBM's Parker's Building Supply supplied discounted building materials, including drywall, lumber, hardware and more.

In the last two years, the US LBM Foundation has donated more than $175,000 to multiple veteran organizations that provide housing to wounded veterans.

Of the funds raised at this year’s event, the US LBM Foundation has pledged $50,000 to relief efforts for Hurricane Ida and $25,000 to support Caldor Fire relief efforts in Northern California.

Additionally, the Foundation will donate $25,000 to Live the Life of South Florida, on behalf of Bernhard Langer, US LBM’s brand ambassador on the PGA TOUR Champions. Langer attended this year’s tournament, offering advice to golfers at the course’s signature island green on hole 17, one of the most well-known golf holes in the world.

The Gary Sinise Foundation’s R.I.S.E. (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment) Program builds specially adapted smart homes for our most severely wounded heroes.

Through the above-mentioned organizations, the US LBM Foundation is supporting three specific projects, committing $25,000 to each, for a total of $75,000, as well as providing discounted building materials through US LBM’s network of local building material suppliers, stretching the dollar value of the donations even further. The specific projects are:

• Through Operation Finally Home, the Foundation is supporting the construction of a home in Arkansas for wounded veteran U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Cory Hixon and his family. Locally, US LBM’s Ridout Lumber is providing the project with discounted building materials for the build.
• Through the Gary Sinise Foundation’s R.I.S.E. Program, the US LBM Foundation is supporting two projects:
  • A housing build in Houston, Texas for wounded U.S. Army SSG Jay Fondren. US LBM’s Parker’s Building Supply has supplied discounted building materials including drywall, lumber, hardware and more.
  • A housing build in Miramar, Fla. for wounded US AIRF SSgt Brian Schiefer, where three of the company’s local operating divisions – BSA, Raymond Building Supply and Rosen Materials – have teamed up to provide discounted housing materials, including windows, skylights, doors, stucco, drywall and more.

“We honor and appreciate the sacrifices our veterans have made for our country,” said Gibson. “On this Veterans Day and every day we say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to everyone who has served.”

Since its inception in 2013, the US LBM Foundation has provided more than $1 million to support organizations that honor veterans and their families, provide housing for those in need, support the development and health of children, aid victims of natural disasters and promote the prevention and treatment of diseases.
